Math Kangaroo USA

Since 2013 students from Worcester and surrounding towns can participate in the Annual International Mathematics Competition - Math Kangaroo. MathAltitude School of Mathematics is the only official Math Kangaroo center in Worcester.

22-th Annual International Mathematics Competition: Math Kangaroo will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 4:30 and 6:30 pm at Worcester Academy, Walker Hall, 81 Providence St.

What is Math Kangaroo?

  • Math Kangaroo competition originated in Australia and became very popular in France in late 1990s. Today it is held in 52 countries and more than 6 million students participate, including 30,000 in the United States.

  • The Association Kangourou Sans Frontières (AKSF) was established in 1994 and is responsible for organizing the Kangaroo contest. In USA, it is administered by "Math Kangaroo in USA", NFP, 501(c)3

  • Students of all ages (7-18) in in six different age categories, will take part in 75 minutes test, solving 24 (grades 1-4) or 30 (grades 5-12) multiple-choice questions.

  • The contest is designed to promote excitement, enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards mathematics and to stimulate interest in continuing the study of mathematics beyond the required minimum.

  • “Math fun and prizes for all participants” (from MK website): each participant receives a t-shirt, a certificate and a small gift on the test day.

  • Top awards include international summer camps and college grants.

A child does not need to be a MathAltitude student to participate. We invite our students and all their friends to challenge their mathematical curiosity with this contest. While there are a fair amount of math contests are available for high school students, there are not that many held for elementary and middle school students. The Math Kangaroo can be the first great step in discovering mathematics.
